My sister, today
Photo
4 yrs 3 mos ago
This is my big sister, Simone, today. She is pretty much unchanged from 30 years ago. She's as startlingly beautiful today as she always has been, having snarfed up a huge portion of my beautiful mother's gene pool.
She sells luxury real estate with her husband now on Hilton Head Island, SC and took over our old family home. Funny about that portrait in the attic....just kidding! |

Mack on the Phone

My Dad always was laughing. I really remember that most about him. He'd get tickled about something and would laugh so hard that his face would turn bright red and tears would flow from the corners of his eyes.

Mack with Mugsy
Photo
4 yrs 6 mos ago
This is my Dad with our old boxer, Mugsy. I never actually knew Mugsy, but like all of our family pets...they lived on in stories so it is almost as if I knew her.
This was my father's morning outfit. He had his own tiny bathroom in the house and got up early to take his shower. We never had enough hot water. It was always running out. You would be standing in the shower and it would go ice cold and take forever to warm up again. There was nothing for it but to stand there with shampoo in your eyes and take a cold shower. I was really excited about buying a new waterheater for my house with lots of bells and whistles. It's a wonderful appliance. |

Mack Relaxing at Home
Photo
4 yrs 6 mos ago
My Dad would get home from work and relax with a copy of the Savannah Evening Press in his favorite chair. It used to be this old Victorian rocker, then my Mom broke down and got him a Lazy-Boy Recliner in later years. He'd watch the news on TV then we'd all eat dinner.

Mack....Fishing
Photo
4 yrs 6 mos ago
My father played as hard as he worked and was interested in the workings of all of his hobbies. The fishing lead to boat building and repair. He did beautiful woodworking. There just didn't seem to be much that he couldn't do well.
Fishing was his greatest pleasure and we spent almost every weekend doing something connected to the water. |

Mack...Later

The grey flannel suit was tailor made for my Dad. He loved working...sometimes a bit too much. He was something of a rebel in his family, staunch Victorians dedicated to higher education going back to the 1800's. Mack decided to forgo college and work.
After returning from WWII, he worked in a number of industries related to heavy farm equipment, tractors, trucks and finally Chevrolet trucks. |

Mack in North Africa
Photo

Like so many men of his generation, the seminal event of my father's life was his service in WWII.
He was stationed in Scotland when serving as an officer in the Army Air Corps. He was something like an air traffic controller, but also spent a good bit of time in Lisbon and North Africa. We weren't clear about exactly what he was doing there. He was a censor. |
